Living here in Bournemouth I remember quite a few years back a shop
called Caltech which I visited on several occasions which specialised in
selling second hand computer games, for the C64 and Amiga and sold quite
a few Public Domain disks. It was quite a small shop with a load of
shelves dotted here and there and a bargain bin and all the usual stuff
in a second hand computer shop, and their always used to be people
crowded around a computer playing silly games. Anyway enough of this
waffle what really annoyed me about this is the price of the PD sold,
about £1.25 a disk, back in the early 90's and from what I remember you
had to supply your own disks and as you collected them there and then I
though, cor.. thats a bit steep ain't it.
Anyway guess what the shop closed down a few years later and the owner
happened to program a worldwide successfull game. Who am I refereing
to, im refering to Andy Davidson, the programmer of the excellent worms
game.

[It's true that PD companies milked the scenes productions for years
without putting much back into it. Even though Amigans are a dying
breed around here, small computer shops still offer 2 year old PD
software at 99p a disk! For that I could have a smart HD TDK floppy
full of more usefull stuff from the Aminet. The Aminet is slowly
killing them off anyway so don't worry about it. The more profitable
ones are into producing CDROMs these days full of our work without our
permission. Kei]
